RE: Parents bought RV and can no longer afford, advice please?

The bank will never lose. Trust me when I say that.
I had to fight a major lawfirm in New Jersey over a repo'd car. My wife's ex took their car and said he would make payments (after the divorce). She being the good woman she is said alright, and he never made a payment. We got a nice phone call one day....sarcastic of course, and I haggled with them. I didn't back down, which is key. I think I earned a little bit of respect because of it. We worked it were we could pay $3000, and they would wipe her credit clean..in writing of course via our lawyer. And they would pursue the ex and get him for the other $14000. Last we heard from the law firm, they had a PI on him and were almost ready to nab the car.
Bottom line, the lien holder will always win. If you owe $65000, and they sell it at auction, you are still liable for the difference. Say it sells for $50000, you are still out $15000 plus fees.
Sorry to be such a downer...but been there and done that.

RE: Didge Ram 2500, brake controller location?

I have a '03 1500, same dash setup. I have mine setup just over the right knee also. Lets face it, if you get in an accident that is horrific, it isn't going to matter if the controller is there or not. Your knee will hit the dash and break either way.
A minor accident won't cause a problem.

RE: Were to get Maxxis Tires

ccjmt4,
I live in Austin, AR and I got a quote from Young Tire in Cabot. They can get them. The online Maxxis site ships for free, but are about $15 more per tire than Young was quoting.

RE: Rising gas prices-how it will impact a planned trip!

We changed from a Yellowstone trip (4300 miles round trip) to a 1500 mile trip...we went to the Smokies...out to Gatlinburg, TN. It was great, and still got to have a mountain vacation!

RE: Very first trip complete!

What I did do, was take a 6 pack of bottled water, also had a 7 gallon container that I took full of our local water, so we really only used the water connection for showers....and I could smell the hose in the water. We accidentally re-filled a bottle with the water from the connection and it tasted like the hose.

Twin Creek Gatlinburg, TN

A definite 10 out of 10
Friendly staff, BEAUTIFUL campground. They just repainted the pool, they were mowing the grounds the day we arrived, no trash anywhere to be found. The park was spotless! Lots of shade trees, almost every site was shaded.
Down off the road, which I liked. We had high wind one day, and most of it stayed in the tops of the trees....another reason I was glad we were down off the road.
Very peaceful and quiet at this park! Scenic....
The WIFI was awesome! They have routers set up around the campground. My laptop found 3 of them, 2 of which had a good signal I could use. One was just too far away, but it was great.
We met the co-owners wife and kids, and they were great and she answered all of our questions, and recommended restaurants and things to do.
All of our neighbors were great!
The staff is very trusting of its campers. They leave ice and firewood accessible all night encase you need it. They just ask you to come in and pay for it the next morning. They even had 5 very nice vehicles to rent!
They are 2 miles north of HWY441/321 intersection. Far enough away you feel like you are out of town, yet close enough to be in the middle of it all in 5 minutes!
If you come out to Gatlinburg, I wouldn't look any further than Twin Creek RV Resort!!
We give it :) :) :) :) :)

Very first trip complete!

We just completed our maiden voyage with our TT. All I can say is I am hooked! I have been waiting for this since December (when I got it)....we left for Gatlinburg,TN last Saturday and drove straight there (580 miles...which we won't do again). We left on Friday to come home.
We stayed at Twin Creek RV Resort, and we couldn't have been more happy. I would recommend Twin Creek over any other place around there. (I am afraid that since this was our first stay at any RV park, our standard has been set very high! I posted a review in the campground section. :) )
Things I found interesting during our trip:
-The checklists here were a lifesaver--thanks to all who post them
-Only forgot the scissor jack crank--had to use a screwdriver PITA!
-The RV folks are unbelievably friendly!!! Everyone we met at the campground was great!
-Water hose for drinking (white)--still tasted like a hose....maybe cause it was brand new?
-Packing for the first time takes FOREVER!!!!! Definitely give plenty of time!
-AVG MPG was 9.8...avg speed 65mph
-**Tennessee law requires a rubber sewer seal or a screw-on seal. We had to go buy one---heads up for anyone camping in TN**
***The Smokey Mountain National Park seems to be having problems with its trees falling due to the amount of rain they have had this year. We were going to come in to Gatlinburg via Townsend GSMNP entrance, but it was closed due to trees in the road.
Next day it was open at Gatlinburg, and 12 miles in, while we were in the park, 2 trees fell over the road, and the Townsend entrance(yet again) closed for 24 more hours.***
Overall, I would rate our experience a 12 out of 10. More importantly, our 4 yr old and our little min-pin had the time of their lives! We are hooked....for life. We have already talked about doing this in retirement on a full time basis....20 years from now! :)
Thank you to all for the threads and the advice, and the checklists! This place made our trip much more enjoyable, and that is why I always come here for answers.
Paul, Brande, and Faith...and the min-pin....China

RE: Gatlinburg, TN

We are here at the Twin Creek RV, and after the first night, we have even added 2 more nights onto the 3 we already had planned! This is a first class campground, with a friendly staff, and the campers we have met have been great!

Friction Sway help

I am cursing myself, cause I can't get the friction ball tightened down to the W/D hitch! How do you get that on there without anything to hold it from turning while you are turning the nut on the bottom?
I am about to go batty!!!!!

W/D Question

I have the Robin W/D hitch set up. I just hooked it up....should the chains be real tight? The hitch head is level, but the chains are pretty darn tight. Should they have any slack?

W/D question

Alright,
I am going to hook up my W/D setup in a level parking lot today. Question I have is, what type of oil do I buy to lube the spring bars? I have some hitch grease for the ball and coupler, but I am guessing I need oil for the spring bars? Can I just use the 3-in-1 oil, or what?
As always, thanks in advance!! :)

RE: hooking to tt

I just back it up until I think I am within a foot, get out and look at it and adjust as needed. Never took more than 5 minutes. Very easy, just don't back up too far, or your tailgate will pay for it! I haven't done that.....yet.

RE: Considering Smokies over Northwest trip

Steve, we are doing the exact same thing you are doing. I am from Arkansas, and we were headed to Montana, Yellowstone, then Estes Park.
We have changed our trip to the Smokies. We made reservations at Timber Creek RV Resort 2 miles north of Gatlinburg. The other campground under consideration....and alot more peaceful is the Little River KOA in Townsend, TN. The road that runs into the Smoky National Park over there is beautiful. You can drive it all the way to Gatlinburg, and it follows the Little River. Very pretty and worth the drive. I believe Elkmont Campground is down on the Townsend end, it is inside the park, but no hookups. We are headed out there next weekend.

RE: Gatlinburg, TN

Thank you all for your replies. I was in Alcoa in April of 2007 and made my way one day down to Townsend, Cades Cove, and then made the mistake of driving into Gatlinburg. I have been thru the town, and there is so much to see.
I will be there with my wife and 4 year old daughter.
We have made reservations at Timber Creek. Very nice people on the phone, and they give 10% discount to Active Military, so I was sold! Leaving next weekend.
We originally were going to Montana then Yellowstone, then Colorado, but gas finally did us in. So we are cutting 60% of our cost going out to a place nearly as beautiful! :)

RE: Gatlinburg, TN

So the real question is....an informal poll if you will...
Little River KOA in Townsend, or Twin Creek in Gatlinburg.
I personally like the drive along the little river from Townsend to Gatlinburg through the Smokey National Park
